Founded and run by Wendy Massey, 1st Unique Gifts is a fledgling family business, operating from her home, in a garden studio. Wendy decided to start selling her designs following redundancy from a teaching/management role and hasn't looked back since.

Wendy is inspired by people, their interests, passions and lifestyles, and she develops her ideas and themes from these to use in her designs. Her own passions include beach huts, campervans, seasides and chickens - none of which she owns at the moment (and some of which she is highly unlikely ever to own) but designing items using her images of them makes up for that fact a little. She loves colour, repetition and shape.

With four people on the planet calling her Mum, and two who call her Grandma, Wendy has an genuine understanding of the type of items Mums want to buy and children enjoy. She also knows exactly what it's like trying to find something personalised for a child with an unusual name, which is one of the reasons she decided to make personalised gifts to order - you can specify any name on many of Wendy's designs as she hand-paints and hand-letters everything to order.

For making an occasion special, or just for those little items that make every day more fun, you may find exactly what you're looking for in Wendy's range. In addition to special gifts, 1st Unique produce some smaller fun items for around the home. The art hangers, for instance, are perfect for young children and soon become part of a child's daily ritual of coming home from school with a mini masterpiece and displaying it for all to admire. The child's name being on the art hanger plaque makes it more special and for younger children will help with learning to spell their own name.

Because everything is hand painted and hand lettered to order, the item you receive may differ slightly from the sample shown - we think that's rather special in today's world of mass production, and hope you do too.
