About A DROP OF THE OCEAN

Founder of A Drop of the Ocean Pottery, Mary Howard-George, trained as a potter at the Kent Institute of Art and Design. On graduating in 1978, Mary set up her own studio in the Medway towns before devoting several years to raising her four children, and later had a brief spell as a teacher. In 2008, Mary returned to pottery and, fulfilling her dream, together with husband Steve, set up pottery studio at the end of their garden and ‘A Drop of the Ocean Pottery’ was born.
Mary has been developing her ideas over several years and her studio provides the idea environment to enable her to work on her collection of handmade porcelain home ware. Mary’s work is inspired by her love of the sea, particularly the sea shore. Her inspiration comes from hours spent beachcombing, collecting stones and shells and enjoying the perfect arrangement of objects left by the tide.
Attention to detail is very important to Mary – be it the twist of a handle, sprigged shells, a turned foot ring, the homely glow translucency brings, every peice is lovingly handmade from porcelain thrown on the wheel. The sea themed sprigs are individually made, making each piece unique.
A Drop of the Ocean's collection available on Swanky Maison includes handmade porcelain tea lights, handmade porcelain tableware, mugs, butter dishes and bowls. A really lovely range of ceramic home accessories not found on the high street.
