Anais-Olivia Designs was founded in 2011 by freelance designer-maker, Carmel Lomax and the name is derived from a combination of her beautiful daughters’ middle names.

Carmel graduated in 1997 with a BA (Honours) Degree in Contemporary Craft & Design. On graduating Carmel took employment and for many years worked as a Policy Manager and Business Analyst on IT and Business Projects.

Yearning for a more creative path, Carmel gave up her career to follow her dreams and started her own business making handmade home accessories, unique gifts, original artwork and gorgeous paper products.

Every piece in the Anais-Olivia collection is created and designed to bring a unique, luxurious piece of textile design to your home.

Carmel loves beautiful things, colour and intricate detail, taking inspiration from nature images of flowers, shells, plants or a still life. She is also often inspired by fashion and will often create something based on the theme of a garment of piece of fabric she has spotted.

First Carmel will make sketches and paintings or sometimes use photography. From these drawings or photographs she’ll develop and design pattern, colour and 3D form, working out patterns and layouts sampling with paper. Carmel’s signature style involves a style she perfected at University, 3D machine embroidery.

Using a combination of hand dyed, printed, silks, cottons, satins and a mix of natural and synthetic materials, Carmel machine embroiders her 3D shapes, bonding them together and working with multiple layers, finishing by hand, embellishing with stitches, beads, buttons and haberdashery trimmings

Although only recently started, Carmel is thoroughly enjoying running her own business and creating her own designs. It has been hard work, but a real labour of love for this talented designer-maker as she embarks on what promises to be a very exciting journey.

The current Anais-Olivia collection on Swanky Maison includes textile home accessories, appliqued designer cushions, embroidered and appliqued hanging decorations and textile brooches. All handmade by Carmel and items you will not easily find on the high street.
