“We just adore Charlotte’s elegant stoneware, it’s elegant, understated yet so impactful and made to a very high standard, which makes her work perfect for the Swanky Maison collection”. Emma & Cath Swanky Maison.

Charlotte Storrs moved from the Netherlands to Britain to study at the Guildhall School of Music. She has since taught violin and Viola privately for many years. When she first arrived in Britain, Charlotte took a ceramics class and found she loved it. She quickly became hooked, but when her children came along there simply wasn’t enough time to indulge in both her passion for music and pottery. When her youngest son up sticks and left for college, Charlotte returned to ceramics and quickly became addicted to throwing and set up her own pottery.

These days then, Charlotte is most often found busy working away in her pottery, hidden in a quiet corner of her Garden in Oxfordshire. From her haven, Charlotte produces a simply beautiful range of hand thrown stoneware tableware, hand-finished with white or muted glazes, especially made for her in Ireland.

With designs inspired by nature, Charlotte is completely passionate about transforming lumps of clay into wonderful and useful pieces. When a pot is leather hard she applies simple surface decoration by combing or using ceramic rollers. When completely dry her creations are biscuit fired to 1000 degrees. They are then glazed in soft muted shades of white. Inspired by a trip to Japan, Charlotte will sometimes incorporate Akebia Quinata vine for handles, loving the complimentary contrast the two materials make.

The white finish provides the perfect backdrop to contrast with the variety of colours of foods – creating a striking display at the dinner table. Charlotte loves to see a table laid with hand thrown tableware over flowing with colourful organic foods.

She’s addicted to the process of hand throwing and finds the whole experience magical, an approach that is evident in every piece she creates. The result is a range of exquisite and tasteful tableware, items that would look fabulous on any table and for any occasion.
