British designer-maker, Claire Paton has trained for her craft over a number of years, first attending Glow Worm Studios in Plympton, Devon, then Yale College in Wrexham, North Wales, before going on to graduate from North Wales School of Art and Design with a BA Hons in Applied Arts, specialising in Glass.

Claire exhibits her glass work across the UK, has completed some amazing commissions and won a number of industry awards, even becoming a finalist in 2009 for Welsh Artist of the Year.

Claire is inspired by abstract art and specifically the work of Kandinsky, Matisse, Picasso and Mondrian. Using abstract form with colour, Claire’s designs aim to evoke an emotion from the viewer. Claire loves to study colour and its relationship with people and their personalities, which she then represents through her fused glass creations.

The impact a colour can have on a person’s mood and wellbeing is immense and Claire likes to use bold colours and form to create a desired response to her work. Claire is continually motivated to create and finds working with glass continually inspires her; it’s the perfect medium to reflect and transmit light within a space.
