Trained as a textile designer-maker, Diane Taylor worked as a knitwear and embroidery designer for 14 years within the textiles industry. When her first child came along, Diane decided to take a career break and focus on being a mum. However, her passion for arts and crafts remained and in the rare and small pockets of time she found being a full time mum, she continued to create.

Diane became fascinated with how both paper and fabric could worked so well together. Keen to embrace this new passion Diane taught herself how to use a sewing machine and started exploring machine embroidery techniques.

However, it wasn’t until recently, when her child reached school age, that Diane had the time to re-start her career and become a professional designer-maker again, this time launching her own business, selling her work through galleries throughout the UK and now by joining Swanky Maison.

Diane’s inspiration comes from a variety of different sources but in particular her love of the British countryside and British traditional customs and cultures. Drawing upon skills learnt working within the textiles industry, Diane is influenced by modern pattern and print trends, creating handmade textile art and hanging decorations that fit beautifully into today’s interiors.

Diane creates her pieces by layering fabric and paper and using traditional patchwork and raw edge appliqué techniques teamed with freehand machine embroidery, embellished with buttons and trims to create original textile products and wall art.
