“There are many self taught jewellery makers but very few who produce such creative and well made pieces. Lesley has a genuine passion for design and somehow always manages to magic up some truly unique designs. We’re very privileged to be able to show her work.” Emma & Cath, Swanky Maison.

Award-winning jewellery designer and founder of Elel Jewellery, Lesley Lake, has always known she wanted to follow a creative path and, after years working as a solicitor and then consultant for her partner’s business, she took the plunge and entered the far more artistic world of jewellery design. This change was triggered in the summer of 2008 when, by chance, she bought a magazine that led her to a jewellery forum - her passion was ignited and it all took off from there.

Lesley is completely self taught and reads books, forums and industry magazines to pick up tips and new skills. Her lack of formal training gives her a truly unique creative freedom which is evident in the fresh and exciting designs she produces.

Initially Lesley started with quite simple beaded designs but soon developed her skills and moved on to more complex wirework, including forging and texturing wire. She has an abundance of ideas constantly filling her creative brain and has developed a fantastic range of original handmade jewellery.

Just a year into her design work and Lesley was awarded a British Bead Award for her wirework, specifically for her forged and tectured earings, entitled ‘Torn’. As the first competition she ever entered, Lesley was both amazed and thrilled to have won this accolade.

Lesley takes high quality materials and shows them to their best advantage. Taking inspiration from moods and visions, rather than more tangible things, and her work has a strong focus on shape, form and texture. Never without a notepad and pen to hand, Lesley sketches squiggles and swirls that then form the basis of her clean, elegant and contemporary designs.
