“Trudy is an inspiration to us all, self taught and determined, she has developed a successful business doing something she absolutely loves. Her designs are so creative and her jewellery so beautifully handcrafted, we’re delighted to have her work in our jewellery collection”. Emma & Cath, Swanky Maison.

Trudy Gay has always been attracted to unusual jewellery, and the history of the different stones, but it wasn’t until she was trying to find something unique to wear on her wedding day that it occurred to her how much she’d love to make jewellery herself. So it was back in 2007, with her wedding day fast approaching, that Trudy bought herself her first set of jewellery pliers and a box of beads and started creating.

Since this day, Trudy has never looked back! With a strong belief that we should ‘work to live, not live to work’ Trudy set up her own business and loves her new found skills. Inspired by the achievements of Vivien Westward, having become one of the most successful fashion designers with no formal training, Trudy saw the potential to make a success of her handmade jewellery – all she needed was tenacity and creative flair.

Creativity has always been one of Trudy’s talents and even as a small child she would spend hours crafting, taking inspiration (like so many of us did) from the legendary Tony Hart. Creating was as much her passion then as it is today and she can still recall the excitement she experienced as she created her first piece of jewellery, carefully cutting a leaf shape from copper sheet, sprinkling it with enamel powder, and then watching and waiting as it was fired in the kiln. This was the first step in what was soon to become a promising future making handmade jewellery.

Trudy quickly mastered the art of making jewellery and launched her business ‘Handmade by Trudy’ at the end of 2008. She was amazed at the positive response she received and how rewarding she finds it to see someone wear something she has created.

Trudy continues to build on her skills and is constantly developing new jewellery and learning new techniques. She especially loves working with and manipulating silver and also likes to use precious and semi precious stones from around the world. Her designs range from big and bold to simplistic and delicate and she takes inspiration from various elements of her life and travels.
