SM: How did you start your business and what led you to this career path?

JC: It was Spring 2009 when we decided to seriously try and start our business.  A number of personal reasons pushed us and we’re so glad they did.  We’ve enjoyed all aspects of getting where we are at this point and are really excited in developing further. (more…)

Originally from Australia and now living and working in Devon, Anicca O’Nions is a jewellery designer-maker with a passion for materials, colours and textures. SM: How did you start you business and what led you to this career path?

AJ: I started Anicca Jewellery after I had my Son.  I wanted to do something creative, yet still be able to spend time with him.  I sold my first collection to the National Gallery of Australia, and it just went on from there.

SM: How did you start your business and what led you to this career path?

IO: I challenged myself to become creative after my Father and a very close friend (‘best man’) both succumbed to Cancer in 2007/08 – I decided that life was too short and I needed to make my mark. Creativity seemed to come quite quickly from my love of wood, through perseverance and learning from my mistakes. A business from my creativity was kind of forced upon me due to redundancy at the end of March this year – nothing like being thrown in the deep end! (more…)

SM: How did you start you business and what led you to this career path?

LLL: I studied Textile and Fashion design at university and it wasn’t until my final year that I really started to get into knitted textiles. I felt that there was so much more that I could learn so I decided to do a Masters Degree in Knitted Textile Design. At my degree show and at New Designers in London I sold my work and had so much enquiries that I thought ‘hey … I could actually do this as a business’. (more…)

SM: How did you start you business and what led you to this career path?

EH: Design and crafts, fashion and jewellery, always have been a massive part of my life.  I had an exciting career, as a Fashion Buyer, following university.  But when I got made redundant I decided to take the skills I had learnt and make a positive change to build something of my own.   And so I turned to jewellery design.  As soon as I started a course I fell in love and dedicated every moment to fine tuning my skills.  I realised my little dream of starting my own brand could come true when I found people wanted to buy my jewellery.
